My name is Hannah. I love teaching Mandarin and Chinese Culture to students of all ages in Los Angeles, whether for cultural enrichment, travel, or business purposes. Unlike most Mandarin tutors in Los Angeles, I am completely bilingual which helps to clarify the subtleties of the language; when neccessary I can comunicate clearly in English.
My qualifications include attending the prestigious International Chinese Language Program at TaiDa University in Taipei, Taiwan, a Minor and a 4.0 in Mandarin Chinese at the University of Illinois, becoming the winner of the Illinois Taiwan Consortium Fellowship. I have been teaching Mandarin classes in Los Angeles professionally with Strommen Tutoring for over a year.

Ni Hao! I was born and raised in North East China untill the age of 12 years. I speak fluent Mandarin Chinese and English. I recently graduated from Harvard’s Master of Fine Art graduate program. Nǐ hǎo! Wǒ shì Wú lǎo shī. Hello, I’m teacher Wu. In Chinese, teachers are called “lǎo shī”. As you can see Chinese is a tonal language, meaning the tone changes the meaning of the word, something I look forward to explaining in great detail in class. I was born and raised in China and graduated from Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. BLCU is a very international school that feels like a small United Nations. During my studies there I helped many foreigners learn Mandarin Chinese. I eventually moved to Boston and gained a master of Education in TESL from the School of Education at Boston University. With expertise in both English and Chinese, I wrote a book called Hand in Hand: Sounds in Mandarin and English. In our classes I will keep track of your pronunciation and your tones. I believe in constant error correction and specific articulation instruction that results in a student’s ability to self-correct. I look forward to seeing you in class!
